Karen Young (23 de marzo de 1951 - 26 de enero de 1991) fue una cantante disco estadounidense conocida por su exitosa canción de 1978 "Hot Shot".
Young creció en el noreste de Filadelfia y comenzó como cantante de jingles y corista de compañías de producción con sede en Filadelfia. A principios de la década de 1970, actuó con el grupo Sandd, con Frank Gilckin (guitarra principal), George Emertz (guitarra rítmica), Frank Ferraro (bajo) y Dennis Westman (batería).
En 1978, Young lanzó el sencillo "Hot Shot", escrito y producido por Andrew Kahn y Kurt Borusiewicz. La canción pasó dos semanas en el número 1 en la lista disco de Billboard y finalmente alcanzó el puesto 67 en el Billboard Hot 100 en 1978. Ese mismo año, West End Records de la ciudad de Nueva York lanzó un álbum, también titulado "Hot Shot".
La canción impulsó a Young a la fama internacional. Para 1981, la moda disco se había disipado y Young no pudo duplicar su éxito. Young continuó su carrera de cantante como intérprete local en el área de Filadelfia y la canción "Hot Shot" se convirtió en su unico éxito.
Karen murió de una posible úlcera péptica en enero de 1991, a los 39 años de edad. (D.E.P.)
En 2007, casi 30 años después de la lista original y 16 años después de la muerte de Young, MaxRoxx Music lanzó "Hot Shot: The Karen Young Reheat", que es una versión renovada de "Hot Shot", esta vez con nuevas mezclas utilizando la voz original. Esta versión, que se registró como "Hot Shot 2007", también llegó a la lista Dance Club Songs, donde alcanzó el puesto número siete en marzo de 2008.
