MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS: "DANCING IN THE STREET" - 1964

Martha and the Vandellas (conocidas desde 1967 a 1972 como Martha Reeves and the Vandellas) fueron uno de los grupos de Motown más exitosos durante el periodo 1963-1967.
En contraste con otros grupos de Motown femeninos como The Supremes o The Marvelettes, Martha and the Vandellas fueron conocidas por un sonido R&B más duro caracterizado en canciones como "(Love is like a) Heat wave", "Nowhere to run", "Jimmy Mack" o la más conocida "Dancing in the street".

Durante sus nueve años de funcionar como grupo de 1963 a 1972, Martha and the Vandellas crearon más de veintiseis éxitos y grabaron en diferentes estilos como doo-wop, R&B, pop, blues, rock y soul. La canción fue producida por William "Mickey" Stevenson y escrita por Stevenson y Marvin Gaye.

Originalmente la canción era una balada, que luego gracias a la innovación de Stevenson, y con la ayuda y el registro vocal del grupo llegó a convertirse en una de las más populares canciones de soul de los 60s.
