Escrita por Sandy Linzer y Denny Randell, la canción fue grabada originalmente por The Four Seasons en 1966, alcanzando el puesto número 9 en el Billboard Hot 100 de Estados Unidos. En la lista Top 50 del Reino Unido pasó tres semanas, todas en el puesto 50. el único éxito que presenta al arreglista del grupo Charles Calello en el papel temporal de bajista/vocalista de bajo, habiendo reemplazado al miembro original Nick Massi.
La letra habla de un hombre que engañó a su novia. Cuando ella se va, él se da cuenta de que la amaba y se arrepiente mucho de sus acciones pasadas. Él promete recuperar su amor. En cierto modo, es una nueva versión de la melodía de su éxito anterior, "Let's Hang On!".

The Spinners, es un grupo de Soul / R&B estadounidense, originario del área de Detroit, Michigan, asociado con el sonido soul de Motown en los años 60s, así como con el sonido soul de Filadelfia de Thom Bell en los años 70s.
Se formaron en 1961 y sus miembros originales fueron Bobby Smith, George Dixon (sustituido luego por Jonathan Edwards), Billy Henderson, Henry Fambrough y Pervis Jackson.
En 1979, el grupo grabó una version de "Working My Way Back to You", añadiendole un nuevo puente compuesto por Michael Zager.
Presentada como un popurrí como "Working My Way Back to You / Forgive Me, Girl" (Trabajando para volver a ti
/ Perdóname, nena), esta versión fue número uno en la lista de singles del Reino Unido durante dos semanas en abril de 1980.
