THE STYLISTICS
The Stylistics fue un grupo de soul estadounidense de Filadelfia, formado en 1968. El grupo lanzó siete álbumes en Avco entre 1971 y 1975, seguidos de cinco álbumes en H&L durante la segunda mitad de la década.
Miembros: Airrion Love (tenor, voz principal), Herbert “Herbie” Murrell (barítono, voz principal), Russell Thompkins Jr. (tenor, voz principal), James Dunn (barítono) y James Smith (bajo).
The Stylistics se formó mediante la fusión de dos grupos de Filadelfia, The Percussions y The Monarchs. Los cantantes Russell Thompkins Jr., James Smith y Airrion Love procedían de los Monarchs; James Dunn y Herb Murrell vinieron de Percussions.
En 1970, The Stylistics debutó con el sencillo "You're A Big Girl Now" / "Let The Junkie Bust The Pusher" en la prensa local de Sebring. Ambas partes fueron coescritas por Marty Bryant, su road manager, y Robert Douglas, quien tocó en su banda de acompañamiento, Slim & the Boys. Después de algunas transmisiones regionales, el sencillo fue adquirido por Avco Records, que firmó con el grupo en 1971.
Avco vinculó a The Stylistics con el productor Thom Bell, quien había generado una serie de éxitos con The Delfonics. Bell, en su primer acto de control creativo con el nuevo fichaje, asignó las funciones de voz principal al tenor alto del grupo, Russell Thompkins Jr.
Todos sus éxitos estadounidenses fueron baladas caracterizadas por el falsete de Russell Thompkins Jr. y la producción de Thom Bell.
A principios de la década de 1970, el grupo tuvo doce éxitos consecutivos entre los diez primeros de R&B, incluidos "Stop, Look, Listen", "You Are Everything", "Betcha by Golly, Wow", "I'm Stone in Love with You", "Break Up to Make Up" y "You Make Me Feel Brand New", que les valió 5 sencillos y 3 álbumes de oro.

"Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)" [Detente, mira, escucha (a tu corazón)], es una canción de soul escrita por Thom Bell y Linda Creed grabada originalmente por el grupo de soul de Filadelfia, Stylistics.
Esta balada de R&B, fue la primera canción de su álbum debut homónimo y fue lanzada como sencillo en 1971, alcanzando el puesto 39 en la lista Billboard Hot 100 de EE.UU. y el puesto 6 en la lista Billboard R&B.
